The Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC), a world-renowned accrediting association and one of the six regional accrediting agencies in the United States, works closely with the Office of Overseas Schools under the U.S. Department of State. ACS WASC provides assistance to schools worldwide, primarily in California, Hawaii, Guam, Asia, the Pacific Region, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.

The Accrediting Commission for Schools, WASC, extends its services to over 4,600 public, independent, church-related, and proprietary pre-K–12 and adult schools and works with 18  associations in joint accreditation processes.

“ACS WASC accreditation is an ongoing six-year cycle of quality whereby the school demonstrates the capacity, commitment, and competence to support high-quality student learning and ongoing school improvement. The school assesses its program and its impact on student learning with respect to the ACS WASC criteria/indicators and other accreditation factors. Schools are expected to participate in self-study training provided by ACS WASC throughout the 18 months prior to the full self-study visit. This self-study process culminates in the refinement of a 3–5 year schoolwide action plan (WASC, 2024).”

  • During the School Year 2023-24, SIS undertook a rigorous self-study as part of the accreditation process. Teachers met in 5 focus groups to analyze the school and its outcomes, the Board of Directors provided regular input on the process as parent representatives, and the Student Councils met to give input. Self-Study Report

  • From April 17-19, 2024, a team from WASC visited our school to validate our findings. They visited classrooms, met with parent groups, teacher groups, student groups, and leadership to learn as much about our school as possible. Visiting Committee Report and Slide Show summarizing the report.
