The SIS middle school curriculum
builds upon the elementary course and is designed to prepare students for entry into an academically advanced high school. The middle school includes sixth through eighth grade students. At this level, students rotate through classes taught by teachers who are specialists in their subject areas.
Courses are offered in language arts, history, geography, mathematics, science, modern languages, fine arts, and physical education. As the core of a school’s curriculum, it can provide a solid, coherent foundation of learning, designed to encourage steady academic progress as children build their knowledge and skills from one year to the next.
SIS emphasizes a hands-on approach to learning at every level through the use of manipulatives, experiments, field trips, guest speakers, etc. In the classroom, students work both individually and in cooperative groups, and apply what they have learned to real situations.
